Birth control has not significantly changed in many decades
IUDs were first introduced in the 1800s and have undergone minor changes in the past century.
The oral contraceptive pill was FDA approved back in 1960. All hormone-based methods use the same mechanisms of action and can have the same side effects.
Existing birth control methods do not meet the needs of all women
All highly effective and reversible methods use hormones or copper, both of which can cause unwanted or adverse side effects.
50% of women stop using highly effective contraception because they are unhappy with or cannot tolerate the side effects.
